30/39
Paul King, the director of the previous two films, decided not to direct this installment
Paddington returns to Peru to visit his beloved Aunt Lucy, who now lives at the Retirement Bears Home. As the Brown family gathers, a thrilling adventure ensues as a mystery takes them on an unexpected journey. However, he came up with the idea for this third film and is on board as an executive producer.
I love Paddington 1 and 2
Starring Graham Norton and Billy Crystal/Emily Mortimer/Hugh Bonneville/Pharrell Williams/Michael Kiwanuka (2024). I always knew that with a different director, a different setting, a different plot, and more, the third film in the franchise would be unique. This film had three problems for me.
The first is the lackluster script
I couldn't connect with the film, and it was a poor script. The charm of the franchise, which was always noticeable and used in the first two, is irrelevant. And because of the wholesome feeling you don't get, because of the lack of charm, it absolutely kills the movie.
nowhere near those levels
The third problem is the lack of character development, the character development in the first and second movies is great, and great, and while it's hard to do that with this movie, it was still poor. The second movie was the best, from Hugh Grant's great acting to the good foreshadowing and character development. Sally Hawkins is not in this movie and she is a huge loss, although Emily Mortimer does a great job in her role with what she has, she is sorely missed and could have made this movie better.
I give it a 79/10
There are some great moments in the movie, from the iconic look to the plot twists, I would say there are good moments here, I'm picking the bad parts from this movie, it's still good. If you follow the franchise and have seen the first two, it's different and unique, but good to watch. There are some beautiful sequences that take your breath away.
