This would be the third attempt at a television series based on the world of Okrutne namjere (1999)
Plot
After a hazing incident at their elite middle school, step-siblings Caroline and Lucien set out to preserve their power and reputation by seducing the daughter of the Vice President of the United States. The direct-to-video sequel Okrutne namjere 2 (2000), starring Amy Adams replacing Sarah Michelle Gellar as Kathryn Merteuil, was originally a scripted television series before being re-edited as a feature film. Gellar would later reprise her role as Kathryn in 2016 for the NBC pilot Cruel Intentions (2016), which was not ordered to series.
Okrutne namjere (1999) followed
This show promised so much but delivered so little. The script is terribly boring, dragging on without any real direction or plot. The characters are one-dimensional, lacking depth or development, leaving nothing to connect with or root for.
The attempts at flirting are downright clumsy, mainly because there’s no chemistry between the actors
The dialogue feels unnatural, almost grating, as if it’s trying too hard to be clever or engaging. It’s a far cry from the effortless charm and connection we’ve seen in the films. Instead, it’s like a group of drama students fumbling around in a poorly written play, trying to emulate the plot of the original and failing miserably.
The casting decisions don’t help either
The brother, for example, is completely miscast. Not only does he lack the charisma or appeal that the role requires, but his presence feels completely out of place. He’s devoid of any sex appeal, making the character both unconvincing and forgettable.
The whole thing is an embarrassing misstep from start to finish
